University of Waterloo’s Federation of Students Announces Election ResultsClick here to download the Press Release.* * *Waterloo, Ontario – February 12, 2010 – The Federation of Students announced today the successful candidates from this week’s hotly contested election to choose the leaders of the University of Waterloo’s undergraduate student government. Chief Electoral Officer Chris Neal stated: “All the candidates did an excellent job in these elections. It was encouraging to see so many students take part in the electoral process and this shows that the democratic process is thriving on our campus. I would like to congratulate all the candidates for their efforts and commitment to students at the University of Waterloo.” The successful candidates for the executive of the Federation of Students were: Brad Moggach, President; Nikki Best, Vice President Internal; Sarah Cook, Vice President Administration and Finance; and, Nick Soave, Vice President Education. In the race for Council of the Federation of Students the successful candidates were: Piraveena Tharmalingam, Math; Ian Kasper, Math; Prashant Kumar, Math; Jon Goetz, Environment; and Steven Hoang, Optometry. In the University of Waterloo Senate election the successful candidates were: Stephan Krysak, Environment; Jonathan Cluett, Science; Ian Kasper, Math; and Luke Burke, Arts. Further results will be announced as they become available. A numerical breakdown of the results is attached with this press release. The Federation of Students is the undergraduate student government at the University of Waterloo that represents over 24,000 full-time undergraduate students. Specifically, that she campaigned past the end of the campaigning period, and that she encouraged the practice of voting past the campaign period.
